Spotlight on Youth addresses critical gaps by providing structured mentorship and practical development experiences that empower youth to make positive choices and become contributors within their communities.
We're providing 50 young people (ages 10-21) with the mentorship, life skills, and opportunities they need to break down barriers and build their dreams. Through workshops, individual and group coaching, community service, and showcases, we're fostering resilience, leadership, and confidence

At the heart of the Spotlight on Youth (S.O.Y.) initiative is the belief that leadership is best refined through service. To foster this, our older participants (ages 14–21) step into active leadership roles, creating a "ripple effect" of empowerment by pouring into elementary and middle school students.
Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: S.O.Y. students in the older age brackets serve as "Junior Mentors" for the 10–13 age group. By sharing their personal growth journeys and the communication skills they’ve gained in workshops, they provide younger students with relatable role models who understand their specific community challenges.
Youth-Driven Event Hosting: As part of their leadership development, participants are responsible for planning and hosting community engagement projects and performance showcases. These events are specifically designed to engage and inspire local elementary and middle schoolers, providing them with a "spotlight" to discover their own potential.
Civic Responsibility in Action: Through monthly community service projects, our students learn the logistics of event coordination—from managing workshop materials to organizing snacks and refreshments—to ensure younger attendees feel supported and valued.
Fostering Resilience Through Teaching: By facilitating segments of skill-building workshops for their younger peers, S.O.Y. students reinforce their own emotional intelligence and accountability while instilling hope in the next generation.
This structured "each one, teach one" model ensures that as our youth overcome their own barriers, they immediately reach back to pull the next generation forward, strengthening the entire fabric of the Florence community.
